Seven Dimensions – Environmental
Helping reduce pollution
While automotive powertrains run cleaner than ever before, the process of making the rest of the vehicle still adds pollution. Lear continues to take steps to help keep the environment clean by our use of environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing practices.

Drivers are concerned about vehicle pollution
According to environmental research by hybridCARS.com, vehicle air pollution continues to have detrimental effects on our health. As a result, consumer demand for more environmentally responsible vehicles is growing.

Automakers are focusing on fuel efficiency
Responding to consumer demand for fuel-efficient vehicles, many automakers are putting their emphasis on improved manufacturing processes and lightweight, high-performance materials. According to Ward’s AutoWorld (March 2006), Americans expect original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to continue promoting technologies that are more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly; so money spent on green marketing efforts is worthwhile and effective.

Lear delivers green product content and manufacturing processes
Lear works closely with automakers and suppliers to lessen the environmental impact of its products. This includes eliminating hazardous materials through the education of its engineers in design-for-environment fundamentals, incorporating recycled materials, and reducing the environmental aspects of the manufacturing process. Lear also focuses on using renewable resources, such as soybean oil-based foam, reducing product weight with innovative layered polymer constructions, and applying its expertise in electrical distribution systems to further the development of hybrid solutions.
