Lear Teams Contribute to “Let’s Do It, Romania!” Environmental Action

Lear Romania organized volunteers to join the "Let's Do It, Romania!" movement that invited citizens from all over the country to join in the World Cleanup Day global initiative for September 15, 2018. For the Pitesti and Campulung plants, more than 70 Lear employees and family members answered the call to help the community in the Arges river valley area outside the city of Pitesti. The team came together to collect more than 200 kg (440 pounds) of debris and waste to beautify and help the environment.

"This was a good initiative in a very well-chosen area and involved nice people from Lear and others from the community," said Cristina Rotariu (Pitesti and Campulung Plant Mgr.). Campulung is about 50 km (30 miles) north of Pitesti, which is itself about 120 km (75 miles) northwest of the national capital Bucharest.

"We believed since the beginning in this project that brought us together for a common cause. Our team together with their families provided enthusiasm and passion. Thank you for your commitment!" added Livia Ghita (Country HR Manager).

"For me, the involvement in organizing this action with colleagues from other departments such as production, human resources and logistics was very effective due to the large turnout. It is very important to be aware that 'mother nature' is a living being who gets injured and that she needs our help. All I can hope for is that our children will learn, be more careful and realize that nature is our support," said Gabriel Taragoi (EHS Specialist).

Lear Romania's Iasi plant also joined "Let's Do It, Romania!" with about 150 employees dedicating three hours for cleaning up the nearby wooded area. The Lear team provided the largest volunteer team in Iasi and collected about 200 trash bags weighing about 2000 kg (4400 pounds).

"It was an extraordinary experience for our team and some even brought their children so they could learn about caring for the environment," said Olga Lefter (Plant Mgr.). "It was incredible how we worked as a huge family. We understand once again that we all are really going in the same direction and that together we do great things for the environment and community."

Iasi is about 350 km (220 miles) north-northeast of Bucharest and the plant produces seat covers for major automotive manufacturers in Europe such as Jaguar Land Rover, PSA, Daimler and others. In Pitesti and Campulung, Lear E-Systems has three facilities that produce wire harnesses for Renault, Nissan, Ford, Opel, Daimler and more.
