Located approximately 120 km (75 miles) northeast of São Paulo, Lear Caçapava joined in the “Pink October” campaign to raise awareness for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
The plant’s Cut and Sew team members donated more than 100 scarves to the local Casa Garra e Esperança (Determination and Hope House). Established in 2005 to support cancer patients and their families, the organization provides easy access to laboratory tests, classes, crafts and basic food for those in need. They accept donations of items such as scarves and clothing in order to raise funds for their work.
Breast cancer is the most widespread form of cancer in women worldwide. In Brazil, more than 52,000 cases were reported in the past year alone according to the federal government. The estimated rate currently stands around 52 cases for every 100,000 women.
“I believe that such events with the community are essential to our own personal growth, as well helping those in need. In the end we win as well as our community,” said Emanuelle Sanchez, HR supervisor. “We would like to thank all the employees who participated, whether donating a scarf or wearing a pink ribbon in solidarity.”
