Annual “One Heart One Lear” in Philippines
During the holidays the Lear Philippines team highlighted the value of giving and sharing to their adopted school children. In December, around 20 volunteers including the One Heart One Lear Committee members, department representatives, together with Amabel Magnolia Abella (HR Dir.) and Luis Quan (Plant Mgr. – Lapu-Lapu) happily turned over gifts to the 375 students of Tiangue Elementary School in Babag Lapu-Lapu city in the sixth year of this program.
Previously the team members successfully held different fund-raising activities such as selling One Heart One Lear shirts. The proceeds from the fund-raising activities were matched by Lear and used to buy gifts for the students and teaching materials for the teachers. The students in all grade levels and teachers of Tiangue Elementary School prepared special presentations to show their gratitude to Lear Corporation. The parents also thanked the One Heart One Lear program for touching the lives of their children.
During Amabel's inspirational speech, she motivated the students and emphasized the positive values that they need to follow in the form of a simple abbreviation that can easily be remembered, the "SOP" which stands for "Study, Obey parents and Pray always."
After the program, the children's excitement couldn't be contained as they received boxes filled with candies, chocolates, biscuits, spaghetti ingredients and canned goods. Joy and laughter permeated the air as the children feasted on a special meal prepared by the One Heart One Lear committee.
"Giving back to the adopted kids has always been an endeavor that's closest to my heart. And today, I'm very happy and overwhelmed to see how this program has truly grown to become an important cause," said Luis. "There is no feeling more rewarding than seeing the children truly happy after receiving their gifts."
