Lear Team:

This Friday, June 19, I am asking all Lear employees to observe a moment of silence to recognize the racial and social inequalities that exist in our society.

Lear will suspend production at U.S. facilities for 8 minutes and 46 seconds at 8:46 am and 8:46 pm in local time zones to pause and reflect on how we can better connect with each other and move forward to achieve enduring change to end inequality.

Employees working from home, or in facilities outside of the U.S., are encouraged to participate in their own way or follow direction from their local leadership.

The date and timing are not coincidental. Friday is Juneteenth, an annual holiday that commemorates the announcement of freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, following the American Civil War. Eight minutes and 46 seconds represents the length of time George Floyd suffered on the streets of Minneapolis on May 25 while in police custody before he died.

Please use this time in a way that is most meaningful to you, whether it is reflecting in silence, educating yourself about racial issues, honoring the memory of civil rights leaders or researching opportunities to volunteer in your community.

The last few weeks have been traumatizing and tragic. Now, more than ever, is the time to end racial injustice and demand fairness for everyone, and talk openly about inclusion, respect and working together toward a better future.
