Every day,
striving for better.

At the intersection of people, planet and prosperity, Lear sees the opportunity to develop people, deliver “green” products and lead by example on a global scale.

Environmental Stewardship

Environmental Stewardship

Green technologies.
Sustainable sourcing.
Responsible operations.

We are in the business of mobility. If anyone can help reduce global emissions, carbon footprints and humanity’s impact on the environment, it’s us. And we are already making progress.

Leveraging Innovative Technologies

Lear’s E-Systems and Seating products are focused on providing solutions across key industry drivers like improved electric vehicle range, sustainable, natural and lightweight materials and intelligent in-vehicle experiences that maximize occupant personalization without sacrificing vehicle efficiency.

Minimizing Carbon Emissions

Lear’s Environmental Management System provides a systematic method for minimizing our impact on the environment. From ISO 14001:2015 certification to collecting energy, waste and water data, we have developed a quantitative and qualitative approach to measure and track our efforts in reducing our carbon footprint.

Reducing Energy Use

Lear’s global continuous improvement teams use lean manufacturing processes to identify energy and waste reduction projects, track progress and share best practices. We are consistently achieving our goals for using less energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Protecting Water Resources

The world has a sufficient water supply to meet everyone’s needs—if we all work together to better manage it. We recognize our responsibility to manage and monitor our water usage and wastewater discharges throughout our operations, surface materials processes and to work towards usage targets that provide more water for everyone.

Eliminating Waste

The best way to eliminate waste is to avoid creating it in the first place. Our use of environmentally sustainable foam, natural fibers, responsible leather and ocean waste plastic are all part of our resources and materials supply chain.

Environmental Stewardship

Green technologies. Sustainable sourcing. Responsible operations.

We are in the business of mobility. If anyone can help reduce global emissions, carbon footprints and humanity’s impact on the environment, it’s us. And we are already making progress.

“Behind our vision of Making every drive better™ are people dedicated to protecting the environment through green product innovation, using our resources wisely and showing respect for the people and planet we all share. By getting results the right way, we all prosper.”
Harry Kemp – Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary

Ethical. Principled. Transparent.

Sustainability is deeply integrated into everything we do, from how we make our products and how we work with our suppliers to how we support our local communities.

Leadership

As the automotive industry evolves, ESG issues have become even more significant, not only for Lear, but also for our customers, shareholders and our Board of Directors. To intensify our commitment to advancing ESG initiatives around the world, our global ESG leadership is supported by three senior executives.

Compliance and Ethics

Supporting human rights, expecting respect, avoiding corruption, ensuring data privacy and providing high-quality and safe products—all of these issues affect our employees every day. To ensure a culture of integrity, we have developed a broad Compliance and Ethics Program.

Supplier Sustainability

As an automotive supplier of choice, we have suppliers, too. We expect our more than 3,000 production suppliers to share our commitment to ESG and ethical conduct. In addition, our suppliers earn International Automotive Task Force (IATF) Standard 16949 certification. We audit regularly to ensure compliance.
