Lear is “three for three” in the prestigious 2021 PACE Awards competition, and we couldn’t be more proud. These awards – one Automotive News PACE Award and two PACEpilot Innovation to Watch Awards – symbolize countless hours of commitment, collaboration and ingenious problem-solving by our teams around the world. By recognizing what consumers want and anticipating the technological challenges automakers face, Lear is Making every drive better™.

  • Consumers want faster charging and longer driving range. The mechanical and electrical innovations in Lear’s first-to-market Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) solves the problems of thermal management, weight and energy density, enabling electric vehicle drivers to spend less time charging and more time driving.
  • Consumers desire comfort. Lear’s INTU™ Thermal Comfort with Gentherm ClimateSense™ combines Lear’s superior seating technology with intelligent software that heats or cools the occupant faster and more efficiently. This innovation maximizes the occupant’s comfort while reducing energy consumption, enabling extended battery range in electric vehicles.
  • Consumers also need 5G. Our 5G Telecommunications Unit (TCU) helps automakers avoid installing a second “shark fin” by accommodating nine antennas in a single, flat package. It’s not only easier for automakers to install but offers improved vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, enhanced aerodynamics, and a sleeker look without the “shark fin.”

We are determined to help lead the industry toward a safer, more comfortable, more sustainable future. Our sincere thanks to Automotive News and the judges for recognizing these game-changing innovations. Congratulations to our global teams in Mexico, Spain, China, Morocco and the United States for their outstanding ingenuity and commitment to advancing technologies for today and tomorrow’s drivers. Making every drive better™.
